How do you mathmatically figure an eliptical arch | |
Answers:
From: James Webb
A practical solution, not a mathematical on. You will need two nails, a loop of string, and a pencil.
If you want the elipse to be horizontal, the nails should be placed apart on the horizontal, the further apart the wider the elipse.
Similarly for the vertical.
The loop of string should be place over the two nails and the width judge to be the width of the joining uprights. Stretch the string with the pencil, keeping the string around the nails use the string as a guide to draw your elipse. This works much better with illustrations.
