what is a quick fix for upstairs carpeted floor that makes lots of noise when walked on | |
just bought a new home and now after a few months the upstairs carpeted flooring, squeaks when walked on. is there an easy fix to this problem.

i am assuming the underside of the squeeky floor is finished so this method should work.
if the carpet is not glued to the sub-floor, remove it from the smooth edge (that's the small tack strip around the room perimeter that grabs to carpet to hold it in place) and roll the carpet back half way. determine where your floor joists are (they should coincide with the nails or screws you see in the sub-floor alsready) and install new screws of proper length. secure the old screws or nails alos.concentrate on the areas that squeek also. this should take care of the problem.
you should have a carpet installer re-install the carpet as he will want to kick it back into the smooth edge. if the carpet is just a loose lay then you can re-install it yourself.
